Unit 16638
Category: Skeleton dug in 2008
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: neolithic child skeleton
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 0.57 m N-S, 0.40m E-W
Discussion: neolithic child's skeleton in NE platform of B. 49. The cut for the grave was clear in the plaster floor. The northern part of the cut was visible only after the grave fill for sk 16601 was fully exposed. The later burial did not disturb sk 16638 even though the grave of sk 16601 partially overlaid the grave of sk 16638 in the north. Sk 16638 fit tightly into the grave cut (16638). Phytoliths were noted on the head of the child, and a sample (s3 (16637)) was taken. Phytoliths were also observed at the left arm near the elbow. Animal disturbance was noted in the hip region. Black staining was noted throughout the skeleton, particularly the postcranial elements. The NE platform of this building 49 has only yielded subadults thus far: a neonate (16627), a 12 yr old (16601) and this 6-8 yr old (16638).
