Discussion: This unit describes the floor or surface of plaster found on the bottom of sp. 454. The unit is made up of many different layers of creamy-gray plaster which are quite disturbed and appear to be anglled in different directions. The extent of the plaster layers goes from near the middle of the pit to the souther edge of F.3351 where the outside edge of the plaster is broken by a line of dark gray and orange material. The surface continues all the way (though clustered) to the western edge where it proceeds to continue up to the edge around 10 cm away from the western wall of sp. 454. This plaster joins with the wall plaster after a slope. The layers seen in the surface may have some fill in between and there maybe are shards of pottery sticking out from between two layers. To the northern side of this layer the unit has been cut by something and there is no clear line between the plaster and fill. This may be reated to the cutting of the pit (F.3331). It is as yet unknown as to what this surface might be, but its possible circular shape and continuation up the western edge has been suggested to indicate an oven. This unit is described from its appearance in plan and remains unexcavated. Therefore some information (dimensions, bottom levels) is not included on this document.

Addenda to general plaster structure: The plastered surface 16932, discovered in 2011, was reworked layer by layer in 2013 with new unit numbers for each individual layer. See 31142, 31151, 31152, 31153, 31154, 31155, 31156, 31172, 31173, 31174, 31180, 31181, 31182, 31188, 31192.

On the slope towards north, the layers between 31142 and 31174 thin out. About halfway from the section to the buttress, 31174 also disappears. Generally, the layers' consistence is much more compact when approaching the western wall. Also, the sloping is quite variable: concave down towards east on the slope, quite flat down towards south on the western part of the surface, and then steep down towards a central point in the east. The southern side of the section has been excavated in detail (see the unit numbers listed above). The northern part has ben excavated with the trowel much more quickly. The results seem to mirror the ones seen in the detailed excavation.

Finds Room Information:

All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
