Unit 19480
Category: Layer dug in 2012
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Arbitrary layer of make up of platform
Data Category Information: Description: cleaning
Dimensions: .85 x .10 X .10 cm
Discussion: This was a small test excavation of the platform (F.638) in the Southwest portion of the space. Its purpose was to clear/clean 2002 excavations and define the extent of the platform, which takes up the entire area of the space. We removed approximately 10 cm x 10 cm x 85 cm of the platform lip (which runs N/S along the western edge of the space). When the overlaying clay of the platform was removed, brown infill was exposed beneath which indicated that the platform was diving down, and therefore ending, just beyond the limit of the 2002 excavations. Once this was ascertained, we quit in order to start excavations on the infill at the western portion of Space 87.
Recognition: Cleaning/Cutting of a small portion of Platform identified in 2002 excavation. Recognized by raised lip (approx 10 cm) made of compacted clay at far west portion of unit. (F.638)
Definition: Arbitrary cut into clearly defined platform mound. Excavated southern portion until distict break onto brown infill was encountered.
