Discussion: The identification of u. 20225 as semicircular seems to actually represent some spillover/blowing over wall f. 3951. The real pit infill seems to be against wall f. 3951, extending into the eastern baulk. The basal boundary of this unit was extremely unclear; we had to stop excavating because the dark soil of 20225 was undercutting/going beneath u. 20223. 

 

Recognition: soil change at base of u 20181 

Definition: semicircular deposit of dark soil 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: cool, shaded, many flies! 

Consistency: loose to friable 

Colour: very dark brown 

Texture: silty clay loam 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: bone, charcoal, pottery, obsidian 

Post-depositional Features: - 

Basal Boundary: extremely unclear
