Discussion: Cut [20228] is immediately against wall f.3951. It is the cut for pit f. 3953, and although its uppermost extent was easy to identify in plan, the fill u. 20225 appeared to undercut the adjacent unit 20223, which is a much lighter and more compact soil. For this reason, the basal boundary of the cut as identified here is somewhat arbitrary, more based on the impossibility of distinguishing the cut in section than anything else.
