Unit 20223

Category: Layer    dug in 2012

Area: TPC

Interpretive Categories: heterogeneous deposit

Data Category Information: Deposition: buried soil

Dimensions: 0.75 x 1.44 x 0.07 m

Discussion: This layer represents the same kind of heterogeneous natural deposit as in units 20180 and 20156, but is bounded by f. 3954 (a pit) and walls f. 3952 and 3951 (as well as the arbitrary northern boundary in the trench), and the eastern extent of the trench. It lies above some evidently darker soil, which will help in bringing the northern half of the trench into phase with the southern half

Recognition: seen as u20180 then u20225 were dug

Definition: defined by arbitrary boundary to north, wall to S, and trench limit to east

Execution: trowel

Condition: warm, shaded

Consistency: friable to firm

Colour: greyish brown

Texture: silty clay loam

Bedding: compound

Inclusions: pottery, bone, obsidian, groundstone

Post-depositional Features: pit f. 3953

Basal Boundary: clear-- soil change to dark brown
