Dimensions: 1.36 m x 0.75 m x 0.03 m 

 

Discussion: This is an extremely shallow deposit of soft, loose, reddish brown silty loam. It appears to have been blown and displaced somewhat by wind at its uppermost extent, as has been the case in this trench with several other units (see 20225 & 20229). This layer had pottery, bone, shell, and obsidian, but was not particularly artifact-rich. 

 

Recognition: obvious deposit of loose reddish-brown silty clay loam below 20180 

Definition: clear difference in soil texture and color 

Execution: trowel 

Condition: warm, shaded, fly mating season 

Consistency: loose to friable 

Colour: dark reddish brown 

Texture: silty loam 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: pottery, bone, obsidian, shell 

Post-depositional Features: - 

Basal Boundary: clear- soil change to compact orange-grey loam
