Discussion: This unit was recognized as an almost L-shaped layer of fill between plaster wall and plaster floor u.20957. It was removed and it became obvious that it actually was prematurely removed. This means that it was below u.20957 and should have been excavated after that (as part of u.30579). However it seems the plaster floor was disturbed here, and this mistake was easy to make. U.20981 (this unit) was thus same as the fill under the plaster floor, u.30579 (see discussion for u.30579) 

 

Consistency: Packed but friable when excavated with trowel 

Colour: Greyish brown 

Texture: Silt 

Bedding: Massive, packed 

Inclusions: Secondary carbonates 

Post-depositional Features: Roots 

Basal Boundary: Clear but gradual. A floor layer is underneath, but it is sloping. Also base of plaster wall (u.20598) was partly beneath.
