Discussion: Base of hearth F.7607 made up of different sediment types from alluvial clays to mudbrick-type deposits. Rich in solidified, calcitic ashes and charcoal fragments. Inclusions of oven wall are found throughout the unit. Coarse sands / gravels are encountered towards the bottom of the deposit. 

 

Consistency: Soft 

Colour: Dark reddish brown 

Texture: Sandy clay loam 

Bedding: Compound layered 

Inclusions: Coarse sands (grit), charcoal, calcitic ashes. 

Post-depositional Features: Bioturbation (animal burrowing), gypsum reprecipitation. 

Basal Boundary: Constructional, distinct, smooth, flat
