Unit 21651
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: pit in midden
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Outline of infill clearly visible in eastern section. Color difference was main identifying factor. In plan also visible as surrounding midden layer contains much more soot and charcoal making the lighter colored pit infill visible. The pit contained some bone fragments. Uncertain purpose. Could be a result of digging into pit and then backfilling it with waste material. As it was dug into a midden this seems likely. The unit was delimited to the north by a truncated brick which also gave the pit its stepped characteristics. The unit was excavated by trowel in order to locate and identify the borders of the cut.
