Unit 21680
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: burial infill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: The unit number 21680 was assigned arbitrary in order to record surroundings above and next to the partially preserved skeleton 21679. Application of the latter method may be explained by the fact of uneven surface of the left deposits located in N-E corner of the B.77/132 where a lot of (post-depositional) funeral activities took place, that were involved mostly with subsequent multiple inhumation within the platform (of B.77). The latter recording strategy based on the fact that the remaining parts of human skeletons may be considered as an effect of truncation and disturbances related with multiple funeral activities, that took place within the N-E platform of B.77 in Neolithic. However, it is possible also that skeletons’ incompleteness might be related to previous archaeological researches carried out for several seasons within the platform. Furthermore, the latter were allied with the extremely limited area of work restricted by the recognized cuts of younger burials. In that circumstances in 2015 the decision had been made to treat crumbled and uneven surface (marked by the bases of later cuts) in the closure scope of the NE corner of the B.77 as arbitrary infill due to unclearness as well as in order to record remaining human remains of uncertain affiliation.
In the course of introduced work there were recognized right forearm and two hands (U.21679) of adult individual within the sediment 21680 that might be a part of previously excavated Skeleton 30549 within the feature F.7137.
