Discussion: This unit belongs to the remains of a possible foundation for the oven superstructure, exposed after remove the upper part U21867. The vestiges preserved correspond to a four courses of different layers of clay and mortar, very regulars, but with no traces of bricks. Seems that they placed a level of packed clay, then a layer of mortar, another of clay until dfine the structure. On the top, the surface seems that was plastered, but the remains were very damage. This foundation structure, was partially built inside an earliest niche in the north wall of the building, blocked probably with the construction of this fire installation.
Is quite hard to define the function of that unit, but this element was completely different from the oven superstructure above, so what seems most realistic is that is kind of foundation, because on top of it, we found a clay ball and stone (X1 and X2 for the unit 21878), interpreted as a foundation deposit.
In summary, in the north east corner of the B-17, on the platform F8041 and partially inside a cut in the northen wall, they placed a kind of foundation structure (U21881) and on top it they placed a clay ball and stones as a foundation deposit, afterwards they build the rest of the oven superstructure U21878.
