Description: This layer is the mortar expected to be present in wall F. 7711, but not yet distinctly visible. 

Discussion: This mortar is completely burnt so as to become loose sand, and is likely to be very difficult to differentiate from the mud brick of the wall when it is excavated. It was not excavated in 2015, and an earth render was put on top of the wall to preserve it until next season. 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: brown(burnt) 

Texture: silty clay 

Bedding: layered
