Description: A rectangular post abutting post u22674 to the north (initially it was thought to be part of u22674). It was 15x12cm at the top and went diagonally down towards the north (away from u22674) to a depth of 19cm. Wood possibly oak.
Discussion: This unit was recognized following the excavation of room fill u. 22635. It is the remnants of a central post in space 500, abutting F. 7960. It was excavated by Marvin Demicoli according to the protocol set by Eleni Asouti. It was cleaned, photographed and eventually excavated. Because it was initially thought to be contiguous with u. 22674, sediments from the surface cleaning are included in sample (22674.S1), while the large charcoal lumps identifiably from this timber were bagged as a separate sample (22696.S1). It was impossible to wrap the charred posts in string in order to pull it out as a whole and were therefore excavated trying to extract the charcoal in as large pieces as possible.
