Discussion: During excavation of 22704 and the discovery of two corners of a building with painted plaster and a small patch of what seemed to be a floor level in the southern end this unit was opened to try and trace the floor level back up northwards towards the painted plaster. It was found that the floor level extended to the north and to the east, so units 22745 and 22750 respectively, to investigate. It was later noted that this was not a floor to a building but the floor of the pit. 

Consistency: firm 

Colour: orange at top with intermitent layers of dark brown and grey. 

Texture: Ash and clay mixed throughout 

Bedding: layered 

Inclusions: clay brick, mortar and patches of charcoal 

Post-depositional Features: animal burrows 

Basal Boundary: constructional, levelled floor, smooth
