Description: Noted on unit sheet that this unit is considered to be very similar to unit 2271, but the layers are thicker with less diversity in colour of lenses.
Discussion: XYZ points for sample 2 taken at the top (ie. before removal) of the sample. Samples 3 and 4 were blocks taken directly underneath sample 2. XYZ points for samples 3 and 4 were taken after removal at the lowest point.
Sample 6, a block taken by Christine Hastorff and Arlene Rosen for palaeobot and phytolith analysis, has 8 sets of xyz coordinates. The first 4 sets of coords are the 4 top corners of the sample and the last 4 are the 4 bottom corners. This very thorough recording technique was requested by Christine.
Recognition: Unit recognized by very distinct fine stripey lenses going down, essentially, vertically.
Definition: Seemed to be an oblong chunk of stripes.
Execution: Partially sampled with swiss army knife for micromorphology. Chunk sawed off for palaeobotanical sampling, otherwise troweled.
Condition: Somewhat moist.
Consistency: Firm
Colour: Between 7.5 YR 6/3 and 7.5 YR 7/3. light brown and pink. With lenses of charcoal black, burnt reddish orange, off white.
Texture: sandy clay
Bedding: compound layered
Inclusions: In thin lenses, layers of charcoaly organic/plant remains can be seen, otherwise few inclusions.
Post-depositional Features: 2-5% tiny roots at edges of unit, salts
Basal Boundary: constructional, sharp, distinct, broken chunks

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.

Unit description: Small unit, both the material from the dry sieve and the flotation samples were fully recorded. There were a couple of large bone fragments; X1 was a rib of a large mammal, X7 was a fragment of cattle mandible and an almost complete 1st phalanx of a cattle was found in the dry sieve. Sheep/goat were represented by a humerus and a neonatal metapodial fragment. Last number = 32Figurine Records: No GroundStone Records: No Heavy Residue Records: No Microfaunal Records: No
