Discussion: This is a thin, horizontal plaster surface in a shallow half-moon shape extending back 0.12m into the wall F.7708 where a mortar course should have been; no upward extension of the niche was recognized. We interpreted this as an early niche, perhaps scoured of most plaster and then blocked with brick, which was then rendered indistinguishable from surrounding brick by burning.

Texture: coarse plaster 

Bedding: layered (diferent plaster layers)
