Discussion: (2878) represents the mortar in the upper few courses that were remaining of wall [61]. It was clearly distinguishable from the material of both brick types that it surrounded [(2877) and (3106)] 

Recognition: clearly different from brick in upper portion of [61] 

Definition: defined by salt encrustation

Condition: dry and hot 

Consistency: Firm 

Colour: Pale brown 10 YR 6/3 

Texture: Sandy silt loam 

Bedding: Massive (homogenous) 

Inclusions: 2% clay (10YR 6/1, small pieces); 2% charcoal (flecks and small pieces); <2% tiny pebbles; <2% plant encrustation 

Post-depositional Features: Lots of salt encrustation 

Basal Boundary: A clear, constructional basal boundary, sharply defined and a smooth/level interface, marked by salt encrustation.
