Unit 30016
Category: Layer dug in 2015
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Base of oven
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: feature; Description: oven; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Severely bioturbated by rodent burrowing, to the point that very little of the original layer is preserved. No signs of rubefaction, but the upper contact of this unit with the oldest baked floor is marked by the abundance of disaggregated calcitic ashes and phytoliths. Rather sandy and with common gypsum nodules.
The wall mudbrick and mortar were excavated to allow for the deposition of this basal layer, which extends only towards the opening of the oven. It appears that the wall was further excavated at a higher level, after the deposition of the base, to prepare and lay the oven floors.
