Unit 30041
Category: Cut dug in 2016
Interpretive Categories: original cut burial
Data Category Information: Description: burial
Description: located at the west of 2015 season cut 22681 is the line of the original cut for burial f.7963. May be truncated at the north by cut 22769 burial 7961?!!!. We should wait until feniched excavat the tow burials to be sure which one the earliest.
Discussion: DF 19-7-16
Sealed by 32527 an early plaster surface of platform F.7952, there was some discussion as to the desiganation of cut numbers and their relative stratigraphic positions. Initially there was a mis-interpretation of a 2015 context: 22684, described as a 'red plaster' 22684 was confused with 32527 a plaster of mid red brown colour. The discussion hinged on the sequence of digging of the burials F7963 and F7961. DF felt that the shape of the cuts in plan (circular but with a rectangular and definite interface) indicated that there had to ba an earlier third cut. The mis-identification of 32527 as 22684 in turn led to all three cuts being considered to be contemporary. THY felt that there were only two cuts with 30041 being the under-dug remnants of 22681 (the cut for F.7963).
However, later cleaning and excavation of the surfaces of the Platform F.7952 revealed the mistake made in confusing 22684 and 32527. Once this mistake had been seen and resolved it bacame apparent that the stratigraphy meant that there was indeed an earlier cut. The deposits supported this conclusion with 30039 presenting in both F.7961 and F.7963, running underneath a darker siltier deposit and containing in-situ inhumations.
THY undertook the recording of this cut and the associated deposits.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
