Discussion: This unit was recognized by James as a course of trying to clarify the extent of wall f. 3948 and pit f. 3986, and where these two meet. James noticed the soil was quite loose and dark. It contained minimal pottery but otherwise was only distinguished by its texture and color. This fill also filled the upper levels of pit f. 3986, which explains our difficulty with distinguishing the boundary of this pit. Due to the fact that this fill was only identified as such through consultation and exploratory excavation, no samples were collected.
