Unit 30472
Category: Cut dug in 2014
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: Pit cut
Data Category Information: Description: pit
Discussion: The cut was recognized by a difference in colour on its surface: the top of the infill was greyish brown, surrounded by an easy distinct orangish brown soil. The base of the cut was determined when reaching a surface at about 18cm down. The base presented a firm soil from the middle to the northern portion of the pit. This clearly different consistency was the reason to stop excavating at this point. From the middle of the base to its southern border, a softer and more friable surface was observed, just like the infill that was removed. The soil on the base contained rubble and burnt areas. In the northern border of the pit, an orangish brick structure was identified, and we decided not to remove it because it seems this chunk of brick continues as a single structure heading north. It was excavated by trowel.
