Discussion: This was a fill between floor and plaster in F3699's oldest phase. It was more or less covering the whole area under the plaster floor. It was covering a floor and a fill in a cut (F7140). It was excavated with trowel, and it was heavily disturbed by animal furrowing.

It was laid probably to flatten and level the base of this feature, because of the earlier floors' sloping. One reason was also to cover the feature 7140, a large empty cut beneath this unit in its center. 

 

Consistency: Packed, friable when excavated with trowel 

Colour: Greyish brown 

Texture: Silt 

Bedding: Massive, packed 

Inclusions: Inclusions of secondary carbonates 

Post-depositional Features: Roots, animal furrowing 

Basal Boundary: Clear but gradual; floor layer underneath, which is sloping
