Unit 30587
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Clay and stone packing
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: floor (packing only); Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This unit I recognized as a quite elevated, packed clay and stone surface on u.30593, a phytolithic layer (possibly an eroded floor). The stones in this clay were clustered in U 30586. It was located in threshold area between Sp.17 and 18 and as such makes up one of the features connected to that space. It was excavated with trowel. Everything was sampled.
It was almost steplike and it was formed in respect to the other features (F.3698, F.3688). It is possible the extent of it was larger because of traces of stone can still be seen more south, but this is however uncertain and not documented as such.
Consistency: Soft
Colour: Light brown
Texture: Silty clay
Bedding: Layered clay and stones
Inclusions: Phytoliths
Post-depositional Features: Animal burrowing
Basal Boundary: Diffuse but gradual, phytolith covered basal boundary
