Discussion: This unit appeared below the clay and stone packing surface u.30587. It was recognized as a thin layer of phytoliths on a semiregular surface area. The phytoliths has regular patterning some instances (see samples) but as soon as they were exposed the fell apart so it is hard to know if this covered the whole area in an organized manner. To me it seems that way though, and even if the surface is not very regular I do get the impression that this thin layer represents part of matting and floor which covered Sp.18 and which is possibly visible in the N part (u.30161, not excavated 2013).
Consistency: Soft and friable
Colour: Dark grayish brown
Texture: Clay and silt
Bedding: Layered with phytoliths (thin layer)
Inclusions: Phytoliths covered very thinly its surface
Post-depositional Features: Animal burrow
Basal Boundary: Gradual and somewhat diffuse. Below is infill u.30139.
