Discussion: This unit was in character similar to the fills under the plaster floor in F3699, namely u.20981 and u.30579. It was laid over the sloping floor, probably to level the base for the construction of the basin.

U.30588 was stratigraphically under u.30579, a similar levelling layer, but was mixed with u.30599, the fill in the cut below F3699. It is thus considered same as u.30579, but a little more unclear in soil character. 

 

Consistency: Soft but packed 

Colour: Greyish light brown 

Texture: Silty clay 

Bedding: Massive 

Inclusions: Secondary carbonates, salt 

Post-depositional Features: Roots, animal furrowing 

Basal Boundary: Somewhat clear. Underneath is F7140, floor and the cut of this feature.
