Unit 30599
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Fill in cut
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This unit was recognized under U30588, a levelling layer for F3699. It was kind of difficult at first to distinguish as the boundary was diffuse and gradual, but it became clear how the fill was limited. It was excavated with trowel. No specific finds were observed, except some shell fragments, and the fill was very homogenous. It is hard to say anything about the pit's function from the fill, but it is clear that the people who filled the cut with this soil chose a clean one for this occasion. Two flotation samples were taken, one from the top and one three centimetres down. The reason for this was that the first one perhaps is a little bit mixed with the layer above, as it was hard to see the difference.
Consistency: Compact but friable with trowel
Colour: Light brown
Texture: Silt
Bedding: Massive
Inclusions: Secondary carbonates
Post-depositional Features: Animal burrowing
Basal Boundary: Clear, especially when dried up a little. Floor underneath.
