Unit 30754
Category: Layer dug in 2013
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: Pit fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: pit; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: The fill had a distinctive color that distinguished it from the surrounding orange color. The fill contained a hodgepodge of various artifacts, which leaves the origin of the pit/fill unclear. The fill also contained remnants of collapsed brick as well as a potential hearth or surface with a characteristic burn mark. The fill was excavated with pick, trowel, and brush. We came upon a mud brick wall that lies along the W half of the pit in plan view, which marked the basal boundary of the pit. This suggests that although there is no change in soil on the E half, it may come from a different depositional context and should be excavated separately. The size of the pit and its heterogeneous coposition suggests that the fill was added through multiple events over a period of time.
Consistency: friable to loose
Colour: brown/grey
Texture: silty clay loam
Bedding: compound
Inclusions: clay, charcoal, lime, calcium
Post-depositional Features: animal burrows
Basal Boundary: in situ mud bricks found on W edge of trench, suggests E half may be room fill
