Unit 30809
Category: Cut dug in 2013
Area: TPC
Interpretive Categories: Pit cut
Data Category Information: Description: pit
Discussion: The S part of the pit cut was identified in plan but during excavation, the edge was less clear in profile than in plan. The cut is clear and was excavated by following the profile of the pit edges, which contained truncated mud-bricks.
Cut [u.30809] was first identified in plan view where it truncated walls f.7176, 7171, and 3952 to the E, although where it cut into fill u.30766 was somewhat less clear. As we continued to excavate the fill of pit f.7188, we realized the cut actually dug into earlier architectural features underneath these walls. It is extremely deep, but much less regular or circular than other pits in this trench and others. The finds in the fill suggest that this pit is post-Neolithic in date (see 30754.x1 and 30754.x2).
Shape: very roughly circular, extends past E edge of trench and comes to a point in S.
Sides: jagged to N, where mud bricks have been left in situ, slightly undercut to W, maybe arbitrary to S
Base Break: sloping on architectural features, roughly 90-degree elsewhere, possibly arbitrary where no soil change was observable
Base: flat-- although this may be artificial on E half
Orientation: N/A
