Unit 31547
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: base of fire installation
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: oven; Material: baked; Deposition: single
Discussion: A hard-backed base U.31547 constituting the actual floor of fire installation F.7868 had been recorded as 2cm thick, dark-brown layer, encircled by the superstructure (U.31548). Worth noticing is that there was no make-up layer identified under the base (31547). Instead of that there was a thick preparation deposit (U.32065) composed of white plaster which laid directly below the base. Unfortunately, the presented unit (U.31547) was disturbed by the abandon activities as well as it was affected extensively by animal burrowing to the South. However, it is clear that the high position of the presented base in its Northern part, which overlapped the superstructure indicates the original state of the unit and its possible arrangement. Judging by the latter data one may say that the terribly truncated feature 7868 represents a free-standing (detached) oven installation.
