Unit 32527
Category: Layer dug in 2016
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Platform Surface
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: raised area (platform); Material: white clay; Deposition: composite (floors/bedding/plaster/packing/occupation); Basal Spit: unpainted
Description: Though not fully excavated during 2016 Season, parts of this context were removed which has allowed for an assessment of its character from the section thus revealed and the excavated portion of 32527. The description is not conclusive but the stratigraphic relationships are are at the time of writing.
Discussion: A renumbering: Formerly thought to be 22684 a context assigned during 2015 Season this context sealed the remnant of grave cut 30041 and matched the description of 22684. There was a considerable lack of confidence in the accuracy of last Season's excavation and the recording of identified contexts. Therefore, although 22684 had seemingly been excavated it was decided that it had not been done so fully and that its stratigraphic designation was incorrect - this also supported an interpretation of Burial F.7963 that it had also been underdug and the cut for it (30041) defined incompletely. However, this interpretation of F.7963 is incorrect and has led to a re-evaluation of 22684. Indeed, the stratigraphic location of 22684 was important in proving the positing that there were only two burial cuts in Platform F.7952 to be incorrect. Similarly, the evidence of the shape of the cut in plan and profile was core to the analysis of 22984. Though syllogistic, the result of this reasoning has been to return 22684 to its original stratigraphic location, necessitating a renumbering of the deposit that seals cut 30041 of Burial F.7977. Hence 32527.
