Discussion: Remnant of oven base, pale & cracked from effect of heat. Located in so corner of space 500 & likely an earlier oven feature which was replaced by f.4103-the oven cut into wall 7705. It seems likely that there was ventilation through this wall before building of oven 4103, with possible extra ventilation through the roof if f7988 is a ladder placement.

Eroded on E side, probably from heavy use of floors in this area/ f.7988. 

Consistency: Firm, friable 

Colour: Light white grey 

Texture: clay 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: Occasional organic remains impressions (2%) 

Post-depositional Features: Burning, eroding, probably burrowing & roots
