Unit 3509
Category: layer dug in 1998
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: Floor/Platform
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This layer was isolated beneath the bricky rubble fill 2281. It lays above the plastered surface, probably floors of some kind (platform rather than room floor). Deposit is distinctly homogeneous and regular, following the sloping of the plastered surface, sloping down towards the North. Deposit is not thick, being no more than 4cm above the plaster. Deposit is well-defined to the West and South by the respective walls; to the East, the edge seems less certain, but it seems to stop in a fairly straight line 120 cm off the West curtain wall. Meanwhile to the North, it slopes beneath the bricky rubble of 2281, and will be revealed in further excavation. As for now, this unit seems to be the deposit (occuapational?) directly connected with the plastered surface immediately below. Since its edge to the East is uncertain it seems to be that we are on the top layer of this platform.
The very South edge was not recognized at first and dug through.
Recognition: Recognized by the color and because the material above the flat surface with plaster was more compact.
Definition: Up to the wall in the South and West; to the East, defined by the edge of the platform
Execution: Trowel and brush
Condition: Dry to slightly moist
Consistency: Firm
Colour: 10 YR 5/6 yellowish brown
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: Small specks of bricks, charcoal, plaster; not many artifacts
Post-depositional Features: occasional specks of salts
Basal Boundary: Anthropic regular plaster floor(?) surface beneath
