Unit 6100
Category: layer dug in 1999
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: collapsed debris
Data Category Information: none
Discussion: This unit represents the collapsed remains immidiately around the screen wall (F. 601) on its Est side, i.e. in space 86. The unit is unusual in that it runs along the screen wall and includes a variety of deposits. These deposits were left in place because they provided a support for the screen wall, which is leaning towards East. Now, that we have uncovered the contemporary house floor we need to deal with the screen wall.
Stone tool (X2) is burnt and is laying right next to the screen wall base. Clay (x1) is a fragment of animal horn made in clay. It was found in the collapsed debris right next to the screen wall.

Unit description: No material from the dry sieve. Sample 10 >4mm flotation 100% sorted. This is a smallish sample of fragments mostly under 2 cm, with one larger piece of sheep/goat premaxilla, the only diagnostic. Otherwise mostly sheep-size with a little large mammal. The surface condition is generally good and most of it is quite fresh and could come from sweepings or remnants of meal preparation. But then there are a couple of digested vertebra fragments, one of them burnt. So either there are different deposits, or perhaps this is clean construction material that mostly caught fresh material. Sample 13 >4mm flotation 100% sorted. This sample probably comes from a different deposit. It consists of three scrappy bits under 1 cm, two sheep-size and one cow-size (burnt). The surfaces are somewhat worn. Looks like clean construction material. Apparently also a Sample 3 recorded, with only indeterminate bits.Figurine Records: Yes
