Unit 8013
Category: layer dug in 2003
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: Plaster layer
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: pedestal/podium/plinth; Material: white clay; Deposition: single
Discussion: Layer of plaster found under the mudbick deposit (8001)
This deposit was thought to be more extensive (I.e. covering the whole bench) but on excavation was revealed to be limited to the eastern half of the bench. This was realised as during excavation 2 features appeared (a small brown/red deposit) and an edge (the edge of an earlier phase of bench - feature 1304). The deposit underneath is almost identical and had no clear boundary with this unit.
Recognition: Sharp contrast to deposit above
Definition: colour
Execution: trowelled in plan
Condition: hot but rather pleasant
Consistency: friable
Colour: creamy white
Texture: clayey silt
Bedding: massive
Inclusions: obsidian flakes (<1 cm < 1%), bone (<2cm, <2%), plaster fragments (<2cm, <2%)
