Unit 8449

Category: layer    dug in 2002

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: floor

Data Category Information: none

Dimensions: 1.80 x 1.20 m

Discussion: This unit comprises floor and packing (#11 ?) in the western half of the kitchen and is a continuation of U. 8445 (eastern half). Dirt y reddish brown floor is more or less completely preserved only in the southern half of the unit and in the portion along the ridge separating F. 606 from kitchen (in stripes). In central part of the unit (especially around oven F. 778) this layer contains red and black burnt clay, mixed together as well as with charcoal, ash and salts. The dirt from the surface between the oven and F. 753 and F. 754 (cuts) is taken as a separate flotation sample (#6) as well as dirt from W and N of oven (#7).
Sporadically we came upon slips of white plaster within our packing - probably renewals of some parts of a regular floor. Phytoliths and microfauna were also noticed.
The layer we came down to is heterogenous, regarding the location. In most northern part we have white plaster (close to F. 606), around the oven reddish stuffed clay and somewhere rake outs from the oven; in the south we are down on the surface of mixed red, black and white slips of floor, which are lipping up the platform F 169.
New unit will comprise next floor and packing in kitchen, starting from the conjunction of kitchen area and F. 606.
