Unit 8443

Category: layer    dug in 2002

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: packing

Data Category Information: none

Dimensions: N-S = 77 cm; E-W = 35 cm

Discussion: Red clay pacing east of F. 778 abutting it, lying below former F. 613. The soil looks as if it was exposed to very high temperatures, which is not unusual since it is situated next to oven F. 778. The layer is mixed with black packing underneath, which lies directly on the current floor in the kitchen (well preserved only in the S part). This black packing was removed together with red although a distinction between this unit and underling layers could not be made in the portion between F. 778 and F. 753; that is why we partly followed the extension of the oven's rim.
There were some salts and gypsum inclsions as well as some ash.
