Discussion: When the unit 8638 (midden) we exposed the bottom end of interior face of the north wall of sp. 88. In order to discover the continuation of east and south wall of of the space, we removed the upper part of the rubble (this unit). It helped us see that both east and west wall sit on earlier walls and follow their direction and configuration. On top of those earlier (black-bricked) walls, a layer of mortar was put first, and after that rows of bricks were layed for the new walls.
On the interior earlier east and south walls, a yellow line of plaster is seen, either from the wall, or from a floor of this earlier space.
Rubble deposit is placed within earlier walls, so it must have been used as a packing to level the surface as well as the packings above it, although it could be that the midden-like deposit above was actually a real midden and later on they decided to use this room for other purposes.
Anyway, this rubble consisted of chunks of schorched clay, stuffed in with middeny soil, bits of bricks and oven floors and chunks of plaster.
