Unit 8665

Category: Layer    dug in 2003

Area: North

Interpretive Categories: packing

Dimensions: N-S - 0.94 m; h=0.16-20 m

Discussion: The unit consists of beige packing of very strong clay with inclusions of whitish plaster (small lumps). There are also some salts. The packing contains also chunky mortar and pieces of mudbricks. When we removed parts of the packing, we found out that it was lying on top of the first bottom row of mudbricks of the E wall (F. 762) of building 3. At the southernmost part of the packing there is a layer of whitish plaster, 3-4 cm thick.
When the opening (F. 633) in the E wall was constructed, they put one mudbrick row on top of the midden and at the height of the second mudbrick row of the rest of the E wall. After that they plastered the floor at the opening and made a "step". Above this step there are 3-4 plastered floors, each of them with a packing layer 0.5-1 cm thick.
On top of the floors there is 0.5-1 cm thick layer of black midden-like material. The opening was closed/blocked with a greasy yellowish and brown clay and pieces of mudbricks and mortar.
