Unit 10018

Interpretive Categories: Burial fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: This unit (10018) was recognised by a rectangular pit in the existing floor levels. The pit was immediately recognised as a potential Byzantine burial pit because of its rectangular shape and E-W orientation. The soil witin the pit was a looser grey brown with orange brown patches than the surrounding whitish floors. Upon excavation of the fill the cranium of the skeleton was discovered, the remaining bones of the skeleton was then excavated. The soil was fraible and consisted of mottled grey brown with orangish red soils. Animal disturbance was particulary evident in the mid thoracic region anc in some of the limb bones
