Discussion: This infant burial was disturbed by the excavator (GSC) during the cleaning of the northwest section of this unit. The frontal bone, mandible, probable maxilla, and right clavicle were moved during this cleaning. The remaining bones were excavated by BB and LDH. The cranium was highly fragmented. The unfused neural arches and vertebral bodies were found in situ and may be indicative of the burial position. The body may have been on its side due to the E-W orientation of the vertebral bodies. The head and body location indicated a N-S orientation at first, but exact position was difficult to determine. Approximately 12-14 flat, round shell ornaments were found in direct association with this infant. Four of them in situ (X1-X4). X5 refers to the presumed cluster of these shells after they were orignally disturbed by the cleaning of this section. It is likely that the burial was eroded into its present position. Animal disturbance was evident.

X and Y of Targets: Target A - X: 0; Target A - Y: 0; Target B - X: 0; Target B - Y: 0; Target C - X: 0; Target C - Y: 0; Target D - X: 0; Target D - Y: 0

Body: orientation; body possibly N-S, face to N - on its side or back

Head: probably upright with basicranium under skull

Right Arm: NA

Left Arm: proximal humerus near vertebrae

Right Leg: NA

Left Leg: NA

Other comments: position of the body is difficult to determine. The vertebral bodies and left arm position suggests that the body may have been on its side. The head and location of the bones may mean it was on its back. Burial may be eroded into present position

Surface Modifications: Animal disturbance
