Unit 10497
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: grave fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: The undulating nature of fill (10497) may suggest that it slumped as the skeleton 10498 composed below it. (10497) clearly adheres to the bones of skeleton 10498 and this must have happened after the skeleton decomposed as it is fully articulated.
There is the posssibility that this fill and skeleton 10498 belong with F1517 and there is no cut [10496] but this is not yet apparent.
Depth roughly estimated - FS 2009
Recognition: recognised after the removal of fill (10488) and skeleton (10495) from feature 1513. Appears to have been slightly truncated by [10480]
Definition: clearly defined by well defined contrast with surrounding layers and fills except to the north where fill (10497) closely resembles the clay marl deposit (11300)
Execution: trowel, dental tools, puffy puffy, fine brush
Condition: warm and dry
Consistency: friable
Colour: light olive green mixed with occasional light brown sandy silt component
Texture: silty clay
Bedding: thin and laminar
Inclusions: non apparent
Post-depositional Features: truncated by F1513 and may have slumpedafter decomposition of skeleton 10498
Basal Boundary: irregular and clear. Seal skeleton 10498
