Data Category Information: Description: cleaning

 

Discussion: cleaning layer- pulled back from visible walls using trowel and mattock. Material appears to be debris from collapsed walls- brick, mortar, dirt, etc. and seems to be overlaying a layer of plaster. Frequent animal burrows and ashy deposits. Level is rather arbitrary. 

 

Recognition: defined by walls and different color 

Definition: boundaries identified by walls (up to a wall) 

Execution: trowel, hand pick, hoe, shovel 

Condition: very dry 

Consistency: soft to firm 

Colour: mostly mid brown, but with sections of white and grey possible building debris and clay chunks 

Texture: clay loam w/sandy and gravely bits 

Bedding: massive 

Inclusions: bones,pottery shards, obsidian flakes; charcoal (<1%), brick pieces (<5%),mortar, plaster (2%) 

Post-depositional Features: animal burrows, insects, roots 

Basal Boundary: arbitrary
