Unit 1078
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: bricky
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 1.30 NS, 2.10 EW, min thickness: 5cms, max: 30cms
Discussion: Bricky soil in southern end of 107.Mainly clean mudbrick material but at southern end it clearly abuts southern wall. At eastern side it clearly abuts what appears to be a foundation brick below the eastern wall, at southern end it overlies foundation trench 1502. 1078 peels of very neatly onto dark midden material, with very clear basal horizon.
SF/2001
As dug this was below 1062, but I've equated it to wall 77 which was not identified in this half of the area during excavation. As there was no plan or levels, I've equated this to the wall on the basis of it's brickyness, closest level I could find on plan 96/113, and rough location as seen on plan 96/117.
The matrix has been amended accordingly.
