Unit 10838
Category: layer dug in 2004
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: arbitrary layer,fill
Data Category Information: Location: cut; Description: burial; Deposition: homogeneous
Description: 2nd fill layer feature 1702 [cut 10811] FAST TRACK
Discussion: The fill matrix at this level seems browner and looser than 10812 above. This may simply be a result of more limited exposure; but in any case it seems usefull to start a new unit given that 45 cms had already been taken out as 10812. Moreover the inclusions [hard grey clay particles; phytoliths] differ from those in 10812.
If the upper boundary of 10838 is somewhat arbitrary the lower limit is well defined by a brown interface with phytoliths covering skeleton 10840; but below sheep skeleton 10839. This interface slopes down steeply north of skeleton 10840.
NB on 27-04-07 new sampling procedures were instagated; unfortunately the total volume of soil for 10838 could no longer be established and only 20 lt could be send to flotation.
TDV derived from dims.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
