Unit 1097
Category: layer dug in 1996
Area: South
Interpretive Categories: dump,mud-brick fill
Data Category Information: Location: building; Deposition: homogeneous
Discussion: Removal of remainder of" fill," from space 106 down onto layers of charcoal/ash rich "midden" material. Similar composition to 1053 etc. but the underlying deposit was less distinct, more uneven and rising towards the Western wall, with more complex layering. towards the South the composition was more clayey and solid. Immediately above the underlying deposit, a high concentration of plaster inclusions was found and towards the north-eastern end, a fine layer of yellowish (coprolite?) deposit. A large and fairly complete equid sacrum lay on the surface of the "midden" material and at the South end a figurine(x3) was found.
