Unit 1132
Category: layer dug in 1995
Area: North
Interpretive Categories: fill of FI
Data Category Information: Location: feature; Description: oven; Deposition: heterogeneous
Dimensions: 5cm wide band within wall of FI 11 (0.44 x 0.36 from plan)
Discussion: Before accumulation of fill of FI 11 plastered facing of wall was covered with deposit(s) of packed rubble forming a band of material 5cm thick within the wall and perhaps rather thicker in SW corner of structure. Alternatively 1132 represents the remains of a previous fill of the FI, then re-cut (see 1131). 1132 contains many structural fragments including mudbrick and plaster but principally daub. There are also fragments and small lenses of charcoal. Some of the material of 1132 in the NW corner was probably removed with 1127 - see sketch on that sheet. The sections show no distinct layers within 1132 so it was removed as a single unit but in places it does appear layered with a greyer more compact soil towards the base containing daub and a more friable lighter coloured deposit above with plaster fragments. That 1132 represents more than a single event is clear from remnants of re-plastering within it. The most coherent represents a partial re-plastering of the corner of the FI but as preserved survives no more than 4cm below lip of feature. This plaster appears identical in colour and composition to that of main facing of FI. Its thickness is c.6cm.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
