Unit 11779
Category: Layer dug in 2006
Area: TP
Interpretive Categories: make-up layer
Data Category Information: In Situ: in situ; Location: building; Material: pise-like; Deposition: heterogeneous
Discussion: This is a make-up layer under a floor (unit 11582) of the main part of Building 61 which comprises the oldest phase in the floor sequence. Shape of the layer was exactly as the floor layer above. A separate graphics was not drawn.
Due to a considerable size and heterogenous nature of the layer three flotation and three archive samples were taken. The flotation samples were taken in the following locations:
S4 - SE corner next to cut 11589
S5 - NE corner close to platform 11529
S6 - central section of the unit
The unit was largely homogenous in its SE part where an oraguish clay with some greyish and black organic lenses were observed. In the NE corner were more organic inclusions. This situation seemed to continue in E part of the unit up until c. 2.5 from the platform deposit (unit 11529) were considerably homogenous.
A considerably different situation occurred after the NS placed fragment of mudbick wall. The make-up layer in this part was heterogenously composed of fragments of mudbricks, rubble and infill deposits mixed up with clay. This make-up layer in NW part of the unit was very shallow.

Finds Room Information:
All material from site passes through the finds room for washing and separating before it is passed onto the various lab teams. The finds room keeps a basic inventory of what is found. A finds material type list is given here. Further analytical detail maybe provided by the Lab Team data below.
