Unit 11971
Category: Skeleton dug in 2005
Area: North
Data Category Information: none
Dimensions: 0.26m N/S x 0.24m E/W
Discussion: This Neolithic neonate was one of four neonatal burials found in a N/S line along the western wall of space 264 as F. 2037. Some disturbance was evident that on the whole, this skeleton was less disturbed than the other 3 neonates found in this feature. There were some extra bones associated with Sk 11971 (L femur, foot bones) which clearly represent at least one additional individual. The arm and hands were also lacking. Moreover, and articulated right leg was found under the feet bones, and under the nearest cranium to the north (Sk 11957).
It is possible these individuals died at the same time but there was no clear burial cut to support this. In addition, Sk 11979 to the south had a distinct basal cut and may have been buried separately.
