Unit description: Hand-picked: A distal sheep metacarpal, 2 first phals, 1 second phal and 1 third phal, maybe found in articulation - but not certain. They were at least burnt in articulation from burning patterns. All bones burnt black and grey (it seems that grey patches indicate a(record got cut off at this point - bastards). Sample 158 >4mm flotation 100% sorted, recorded completely. This contains more of the sheep's foot, which may originally have been complete from the wrist down. There is also what may be one very large piece of large mammal rib, partially burnt and fragmented postdepositionally. Beyond that, a few bits of sheep-size rib and long bone and a few skull fragments and indeterminate bits, some burnt, mostly low temperature. Most of the bone is somewhat friable, probably due to the burning, but does not seem really weathered or rolled. Little digestion. Fairly high coherence, with most of the unit accounted for (certainly by weight) by the sheep's foot and big rib. Not your typical floor unit. The sheep's foot burned in articulation (part of skin container?), big chunk of rib. Area dirty when house burned? Or perhaps the rib is from the fill, although the burning on it suggests it may have been in the house fire. Last number = 30Figurine Records: No Ground Stone Records: Yes
